We participated in an online Oreo Project. Classes from all over North America participated in this project. Every student had 2 attempts to see how many Oreos they could stack before the stack fell. We recorded everyones attempts and calculated the class average. We submitted our average to be included in the data from all over the country. When all participating classrooms have completed the project, we will get data showing all the averages. I will post that information when I get it. Our class average was 15. Kyra won a package of Oreos for stacking the most cookies and beating Mrs. Sian's high score. She stacked 22 cookies before it toppled. Good job Kyra! Below this post is the graph with the results from the students' best attempt.(if you can't see the graph click on the word "ALL" to the right of this post).

Don't forget--This Friday is family Friday. Parents and/or family members are invited to join us in the classroom from 2-3:00. We are going to be participating in the OREO online project and doing math centers. We are hoping to have a good turnout!
We have read the Bucketfiller book by Carol McCloud. This is a picture of our bucket filler board in our classroom. Basically, the story is about everyone having an invisible bucket and when it is full you are happy and when it is empty you feel bad. You can fill someones bucket by giving them compliments and doing nice things for them. You "dip" in their bucket when you are not nice to them or do mean things. We talk about being bucket "fillers" instead of bucket "dippers". The students have been doing a great job of filling buckets in our classroom and on the playground. We have a very nice group of students!

We are learning to write. by Katelyn Grandparents Day was a huge success! We had a great turnout and the students were excited to have their grandparents and family members join us. We showed our grandparents how we do math centers and we went to the computer lab. Thanks to all who attended! Be sure to visit the Larson picture gallery to see more pictures.
Math Center
Time We had a great first week. We learned lots of routines and procedures for school. We had writing workshop, math centers, story times, and so much more going on. Everyone is off to a great start. Monday is Grandparents Day. Grandparents are invited to come in and join us for our math centers. Students love to have family members come in! We had a GREAT first day! We read No David, and David Goes to School by David Shannon. We talked about the books and used them to make rules for our classroom. Be sure to ask your child about David! We also learned a lot of routines and things about how school works and how we do things. We made pages for our memory books of our first work and took lots of pictures. There are pictures on the school website and there will be pictures added to this site. We are off to a GREAT year!
