We took the online Oreo Challenge. We all stacked Oreos to see high how we could stack them before they fell over. Our class average was 17. Adin won the challenge by stacking 22 Oreos. Good Job Adin! (We used ichartmaker on the iPad to make our chart below.)
I have gotten behind in updating the website. There are lots of new entries and pictures. Please take time to look around. We have been very busy and have a lot of science things going on in our classroom.
We had 2 tadpoles delivered to our room last week. We are observing them and writing about them in our observation journals. They have just gotten their front legs. We will continue to document our observations and will be learning about the life cycle of a frog.
We have been studying beans as scientists. We started with the question "Will beans grow?" and then we set up our experiment. We took a paper towel, folded it, and put it on a plate. Then, we took a handful of presoaked beans and put them on the plate. We spread them out, poured water on them and put the plate in a ziplock bag to keep the moisture in. We put some of the plates on our greenhouse table and some in other places around the room and outside. We observed our beans for a week and kept notes in observation journals. We found that the beans on the greenhouse table grew the best and the beans that were placed outside did the worst. We compared the factors of the room and factors outside. The students decided that they big difference was the temperature. They were surprised that some of the beans put in dark places began to grow. They will be planting their seeds in containers. We went to the Wild Pumpkin Patch in Beaverton today. We went on a hayride, picked a pumpkin, played on the playground and in the corn box and saw lots of animals. We had a great day! Check out the pictures on the class picture and class wideo pages.
Everyday we have a new student of the day. The student of the day gets to be the helper for the day. We draw the student of the day, make a bubble map about the student of the day, and compare the student of the day to another student using a double bubble map. The student gets to take home the pictures and maps. They also are interviewed by their classmates.
