We are going to try a new website: www.turtlediary.com. The students are going to learn to use it in class tomorrow and will be bringing home a letter explaining the site and their username and password. I have created a teacher account and I will be able to see the students' progress. Check it out and let me know what you think!
If your child has been talking about any of these 3 things, there is a reason for it. In trying to improve the student's responsibility for their learning, I have tried a few new ideas. One, we have talked about what goals are and why people make them. We have always had goals in the classroom, but we are trying them on an individual level this year. Some of the students have decided to make counting to 100 a goal and they have a reminder of the goal on their desk. We have talked about activities they can do to reach their "goal" and they can choose those activities when they get their work done and have some extra time. This was the first week of talking about goals. Hopefully, students will catch on and we will have a lot more goals made. Second, we have discussed what success is and have started to share our successes with each other. We either share in the morning what we did that was successful the day before or share our successes for the day before we go home. It just depends on how the day has gone. Third, I am using the Bruno Mars "You Can Count on Me" song as a theme for our classroom. We listed on a chart what we count on the principal for, what they can count on the teacher for and what we can count on the students for. I think it has set a nice tone for our classroom! Be sure to ask your child about these new activities in our classroom.
